Decreased susceptibility of Plasmodium falciparum to both dihydroartemisinin and lumefantrine in northern Uganda
Similar to earlier results (see e.g. PMID: 30420498), this study reports that mutations in Pfcoronin convey in vitro growth advantage of parasites harbouring Pfcoronin mutations.

Absence of Association between Methylene Blue Reduced Susceptibility and Polymorphisms in 12 Genes Involved in Antimalarial Drug Resistance in African Plasmodium falciparum

Prevalence of Mutations in the pfcoronin Gene and Association with Ex Vivo Susceptibility to Common Quinoline Drugs against Plasmodium falciparum
Following up on their 2020 study (PMID: 33045351), the authors here analyse the presence of pfcoronin mutations in African P. falciparum isolates, test susceptibility of strains harbouring pfcoronin mutations for quinoline drug sensitivity and conclude that their data do not allow the potential involvement of mutations in the pfcoronin gene in artemisinin resistance to be discounted

Absence of association between polymorphisms in the pfcoronin and pfk13 genes and the presence of Plasmodium falciparum parasites after treatment with artemisinin derivatives in Senegal
Delandre et al. report that the previously identified Pfcoronin mutations by Demas et al, 2019, that correlate with in vitro generated artemisinin resistance cannot be found among resistant patiens. They identify a fourth mutation (P76S), and fail to find a significant association between in vivo reduced efficacy to artemisinin derivatives and the P76S and conclude that polymorphisms in pfk13 and pfcoronin are not the best predictive markers for artemisinin resistance in Senegal.

Genetic background and PfKelch13 affect artemisinin susceptibility of PfCoronin mutants in Plasmodium falciparum
In this work, Sharma et al. show data that suggests that Pfcoronin may mediate its effects via the same pathway as pfkelch13, a gene whose mutations are widely associated with artemisia resistance.

Polymorphisms of pfcoronin in natural populations: Implications for functional significance
In this reply to Velevan et al, 2019, Sharma et al argue that given that the findings reported by Velavan et al. are with artemisinin combination therapy, it may be premature to dismiss the potential that Pfcoronin polymorphisms contribute to artemisinin resistance.
